ART: The Collective Consciousness

This is the Collective Consciousness, which is one head resting on many different bodies, each body sharing the same mind, the same emotions, and the same thought processes, because while it might be many bodies, the spirit might as well be one and the same. Often times this surreal sketch is what happens when riots and mass hysteria break out, although in both riots and mass hysteria it is likely that while each participant is of the same current mind frame, they wind up turning against one another in their fit of rage and insanity, thus turning the body against itself.

The picture above illustrates what happens to those who consider themselves trendy and follow the latest fads just to confirm and fit in with the rest of society and their peers. Once you go too far down that path, you surrender your individuality and might as well be sharing the same head with a crowd of mindless drones just like you. Any kind of group could be made into the Collective Consciousness portrayed above, whether it be an entire society, religious group, cult, clique, you name it. It is human nature to want to fit in, but a little dissent never hurt anyone.

Ironically enough, though, many people who claim to be against conformity would still fit under the Collective Consciousness description, for they conform to their own doctrines, dressing the same as those of the rest of the group to set themselves apart from the rest of society, so in their own right, they are conformists themselves—only they're being hypocritical assholes about it.

Best way to avoid being lumped into the Collective Consciousness is to think for yourself and at least question the doctrines and mentality of your peers, clique, religion, cult, or whatever kind of group your involved with. Of course, if that's too much to ask for with you, and you'd much rather conform exactly to the doctrines of your group, then I hope you enjoy sharing your head with others.
